Map Maker Project
Students will create an island or part of a continent that conforms to the following guidelines:

Reading/Writing | In drawing
their island, students will include 5 different colors and 5 different
shapes to represent different parts of their island. The numbers must be included as counting objects. For example: 1 house, 5 cats, 3 mice, etc. They also need to name their island. |
In drawing
their island, the students will write 1-2 paragraphs describing the
habitat of the animal that the island is drawn like, including what they
eat and any predators that they may have. They need to name their island. |
Students will
create an island or portion of a continent that survived a natural
disaster (to be determined either by the student or assigned by
teacher). Student will write a essay talking about the characteristics of the land and how they survived the natural disaster and what was done to rebuild the land. Essay needs to include information about country and city infrastructure, government, residential, business and industrial aspects. |
Math | The island
will include: 5 different colors 5 different shapes the numbers 1-5 |

will include: A habitat dedicated to the animal that the island is drawn like There needs to be habitats for animals that live in the following types of env |
The land will include multiple cities and landmarks with measured distances that include a scale comparing it to real life. |
Science | Students will create an island that is in the shape of the first letter of their first name or last name. | Students will create an island that is in the shape of an animal (either real or fictional). | Students will analyze and describe how the natural disaster effected their land and what was done to rebuild. |
Social Studies | There needs to
include at least 1 of the following important parts of a civilization:
house, food source, water, a person and an animal. |
Students will show a residential zone and businesses within their island. They will include at least 1 industry. | Student will include and label all aspects of civilization: government, residential, commercial and industrial. They will label all industries that are produced within the land. |
The Arts | Students will draw their island. | Students will draw their island. | Students will draw their island or land. They will include at least 1 poster board or handout to give to the audience about their land. |
